Hello all,
It's now 1 week and 13 hours until I'll be sitting on a Boeing 777
at Brisbane International Airport. It will be one of the more exciting moments of my life, since the last time I was on a aeroplane was 19 years ago. It will be an event up there with seeing Michael Stipe walk on stage at the R.E.M. gig earlier this year.
Yes, ok that's a big call to make, and I'm sure I'll take it all back after the event but my point is, the plane is a big deal.
Soon thereafter, I shall leave the familiar strip of earth that is Australia's east coast and travel to a far off land. A land 2 hours behind us, 1-7 degrees above the Equator, where the water swirls the wrong way and the buildings are really really quite tall. Malaysia!
Now, I want you all to look at a map of Australia. Find Brisbane and travel about 2 hours (or 180km or so) north. Find Sydney, now similarly go about 2 or 3 hours inland from both those cities. That's Josh's realm.
That's all I've ever known. It's not even a sizeable portion of this country, let alone the world!
I like to think of myself as a fairly cluey guy, fairly knowledgeable. Through planning for this trip however, I am fully expecting that my mind will be blown, my assumptions shattered, and my world will get a whole lot bigger. Contrary to popular belief, it is not a small world
after all.
So I shall return to you at the end of the month an older, wiser tiger. I shall have pressed my paws to the world's tallest building, suppressed the desire to soil the streets of Singapore, and paddled in a different sea. All systems go!
Josh! xoxo
I'd love to visit Australia someday- I hear it's a great place for teachers to make their living. Have a great time in Malaysia and Singapore. [hugs]
